Prior to joining Covec, Mai has worked in the finance sector. At Covec, she is responsible for managing tourism and events projects including the International Visitor Survey, the Convention Activity Survey and New Zealand Aviation project. She has a diverse range of experience including stock brokerage, investment advisory, labour economics, tourism, events and aviation.

Management of the international visitor survey

Ministry of Tourism (NZ)

The International Visitor Survey is an ongoing research programme that collects detailed information from 5,200 international visitors to New Zealand each year.  The research is funded by the Ministry of Tourism, and the programme is classified as Tier 1 (the highest level of importance) by Statistics New Zealand.  Covec has managed the International Visitor Survey since July 2008, and has made significant improvements to the productivity and accuracy of the programme in that time.

Redesign & management of the convention activity survey

The Convention Activity Survey (CAS) is an ongoing research programme that monitors conference and convention activity across ten New Zealand regions.  Covec has restructured the programme and now manages the collection and reporting functions for the Ministry of Tourism.  The main users of the CAS are venue providers, convention bureaus and public sector stakeholders.
